Den A hosted their first 'Densgiving' together. Learners helped supply the items and the Den A teachers prepared the meal. Several parents came to serve as the entire den celebrated and ate together! They are thankful for each other!
November 14, 2023 was a special day as Mayor Bob Everson declared this week American Education Week. Ella Frampton was chosen to represent Longfellow as she exemplifies the best of Longfellow; hard work, kindness, perseverance, respectfulness, humbleness, and a positive attitude. Way to go, Ella!
Today was flip-flop day. Teachers dress as students and students dress as teachers. What a fun day we had, seeing what the kids came up with. Please check the newsletter coming out at the end of the month for more pictures from our dress-up days.
Unfiltered REALity (The Mitchell schools' tobacco prevention group) will be hosting free movies this Friday afternoon at the theatre. The catch-there will be no tobacco in either of these movies. Everyone is welcome (movie is free-concessions are available at regular cost).
Remember that there is NO SCHOOL on Friday. What a great way to celebrate your award winning kids!
The PRIDE is strong at Longfellow today! We celebrated being recognized as a Nationally Distinguished School!! What an honor to be named as one of only 100 schools in the nation and only 2 elementary schools in South Dakota. WOW! What a testament to the hard-working, dedicated, passionate staff and students we have at Longfellow! Our day began with a delicious breakfast for the staff. Then we had a ceremony where Dr Graves (former MSD Superintendent) represented the South Dakota Deparment of Education and spoke to our students. Every member of our School Board attended, as did Dr Childs as well as past and present members of the MSD staff. We topped off the day with cake for all staff and students because, well, every celebration deserves cake!
We are grateful for our Veterans!
Thank you Dr. Childs for grilling lunch for our entire Longfellow Staff today! It was delicious and a nice treat!!!! We appreciate you very much!

Is it possible to burst with pride? We're seriously asking here. Longfellow was honored to be recognized with a NATIONAL award!!! "Longfellow, which has 314 kindergarten through fifth-grade students, and Kadoka earned the recognition based on several factors, including state assessment results and attendance rates that are among the highest compared to school districts with similar numbers of students from low-income households." We're so proud of our staff and students! It takes every individual in the building, as well as our district administration, to be the best school we can be for the kids who enter our doors each day!
