Miss Bormann and Mrs. Budahl's classes enjoyed the day yesterday at the Ingalls Homestead in DeSmet. They had the opportunity to see and hear what life was like when Laura Ingalls and her family lived in South Dakota. There were many fun activities they participated in like learning about butter making, hay twisting, and experiencing what a one-room schoolhouse was like. The covered wagon ride was a highlight and everyone got to drive the horse team. They also got to shell an ear of corn and make corn cob dolls and spin jump ropes out of baling twine they got to take home. A fantastic day was had by all!
Mrs. Brua's first graders performed surgery to make contractions! They have been practicing how contractions can condense two words into a shorter word with the use of an apostrophe. They passed their contractionology exams to become contraction surgeons! We are happy to report all "patients" (words) made a full recovery!

Life is sweet, especially for the GBR 4th graders! Yesterday they had a fun, sweet-filled field trip around Mitchell! Their first stop was Crazy About Cupcakes where they learned about running a business and enjoyed a tour (plus a sweet treat). Next stop, fresh air and a picnic at Pioneer Park. They rounded out their day away with a walking tour of Dakota Wesleyan University and shooting some hoops at the DWU Fieldhouse. Mrs. McManus challenged students: if she made a basket, homework for the rest of the year!! Luckily for the students, she missed it!
Yesterday, the GBR Kindergartners went on an adventure to explore and discover so many things at the Washington Pavilion! These young learners had a busy day of fun, exploration, discovery, and more. It looks like they had a blast!
In November, GBR held a Penny War fundraiser for the Midwest Honor Flight. Yesterday, we got to see that money raised in action. Our very own Mrs. Wilson's dad had the honor of being on the Midwest Honor Flight to Washington DC! It has been heartwarming to see the money raised being used and getting to know one of the 84 vets who got to take flight yesterday.
A message from Mrs. Wilson: I wanted to thank you all, and our entire GBR family for the donations during Penny Wars for this opportunity for my dad. A once-in-a-lifetime experience! My family is so proud and happy for him.
