5th Grade Band Meeting - September 3rd

On Tuesday, Sept. 3rd, there will be an informational meeting for all 5th grade students of the Mitchell School District and their guardians who would like to be in band. Our meeting will begin at 6:00 pm in the Performing Art Center at 821 N Capital. All 3 elementary band instructors will be present to share about the band program and all of the instruments your child can play. We will answer any questions you may have.

From 5:45-7:00pm, representatives from Mitchell and Sioux Falls instrumental businesses will be available to speak with about instrument rental or purchase options. Each school also has a number of school horns available for use so that ANY child that wants to participate has the opportunity to do so.

We want our students to try different instruments and choose what will work best for them. If they are really interested in an instrument, that will carry over into their desire to practice and put in the necessary time. Practice is a required and critical part of learning a new instrument. The more they practice, the better they will become. If your child chooses to participate in band, they will be expected practice at home.

The district requires all percussion students to have 2 previous years of piano lessons. Other than that, no other musical experience is necessary to participate in band. Now is the time to start!

Band means more than just playing an instrument. It offers an opportunity to experience a new level of communication. This artistic language will be with your child for a lifetime. These formative years of music education can open up a world of aesthetic possibilities which will bring new meaning to the growth and development of your child.
