Each year, culinary arts and culinary management teams from the Mitchell Career and Technical Education Academy compete at the state ProStart competition held, this year, in Pierre. Having taken first place, they are now headed for nationals in the nation’s capital. Team members Abby Bitterman, Alivia Siegel, Alex Spell, and Haylie VonEye competed in trial exercises in food preparation, kitchen safety skills, food serving, and food service management in their successful effort. “I’m very proud of this group of students,” said Mrs. Cindy Gerlach, MCTEA Culinary Arts instructor. “The state competition was particularly spirited this year, with so many excellent teams from around the state. That our students were able to come out on top is a testament to their commitment, hard work, and skills.”
