Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports

Longfellow has implemented Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) which was established by the US Department of Education to give schools information and assistance for identifying, adapting, and sustaining effective school-wide disciplinary practices.

Through PBIS, we have established consistent behavior expectations for all areas of the school - Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible.

Longfellow teachers and staff work to...

  • teach the behavior expectations and targets,
  • recognize and acknowledge appropriate behavior, and
  • correct inappropriate behavior and reteach the expectations.

Each month, the Longfellow PBIS team identifies a specific target behavior and/or school area. Students can earn tickets throughout the month for their positive behavior. At the end of the month, the tickets can be traded for prizes at the Longfellow Trading Post.
